[He sniffs and wipes his nose on his sleeve. He's still getting over that cold. Still, he drops down next to her watching her face closely for a reaction.
Does she like it? Did he pick the right book? Did Jennifer do him totally dirty?]
(she puts an arm around his waist while she turns the book over to read the back. fuck, it sounds awesome.
abby even goes as far to tip it open on her knee and scan down the first page, her palm rubbing idle circles on lev's back as she starts to zone out. it's definitely a success.)
[He wiggles a bit, usually not into that sort of touch but this past month, especially having been sick, he's enjoyed being close to Abby. And to Nico.
(she reaches for the other present, taking her time with unwrapping it this time and– she's speechless when she takes it out and into both of her hands.
(abby nods. she's got a lump in her throat so she's not gonna try saying anything for a hot second, she's just going to... sit here, and look at the drawing, and lean gently into lev while she does.)
It's really good. (whoops, her words come out a little choked up. she coughs, and clears her throat, and sits up a little straighter. trying to act like that didn't just rattle her to her core, nbd.)
... Thank you.
(for the drawing.
jury is out on the bacon. she lifts it, and finally looks at lev, expression warring between confusion and a smile.)
[He leans against her. He knows that talking about her dad can be hard. Sometimes it flows easily, other times it feels like all of your thoughts, your memories, are stuck behind the wall of a dam and you can't get it out no matter how much you want to.
So for a moment, all is quiet as he leans his head against hers and they're quiet and still and it's nice.
Then she sees the bacon and he straightens.]
If you go to the gym a lot, you need to eat certain things. If you eat this for breakfast everyday you'll be even stronger.
(she didn't know he could draw like this. abby's caught him doodling before in pencil and on bits of old, torn scrap paper. here he has access to a whole range of mediums, and he's really explored that; she brushes the corner of the drawing with her thumb, looking it over slow for what feels like the tenth time already.
his head against her arm is such a soothing weight. she wishes they could stay like this forever.
the explanation behind his third gift breaks the moment, but in a good way. abby laughs, startled, and examines the plastic packaging with interest. who the hell told him that?)
You know, I think you're right. I think this has been the missing ingredient from my work-outs. (it's certainly the missing ingredient for why she's a fucking beefsteak AM I RIGHT /R/THELASTOFUS2?)
(she's making him move so she can lean over in bed and get an arm underneath of the frame. it's where she hid all the gifts: two wrapped individually, and uh. fairly haphazardly.
one is long and thin, and the other is small, and squishy.)
[He shoves at her! She's being so rude. But okay, finally he gets the wrapping off and finds a curious object. It's like a glove but not. He knows that it's for using his bow, they've made ones from objects they find back home. But of them were real.
He runs his finger over the leather and then glances up at her.]
(she glances from the glove to him, suddenly a little nervous. he got her something related to a hobby, and something incredibly sentimental and she got him– an assist, essentially. for fighting. shit. uhhhh)
(it's very cool looking, and he doesn't seem offended, so after a beat abby relaxes, and leans back against her headboard to watch him flex his hand in it.)
[He opens it. Carefully at first and then, catching Abby's eye, pulls the paper apart more quickly. There's box. Curious. He opens the box and dumps the contents out onto the bed.
It's a long... tube.
Lev picks it up and looks at it through the large glass end instead of the eyehole.]

However...
He reaches out and slaps his hand over the book.]
There's more presents than just this.
no subject
I get more? (she glances up, surprised, and then immediately pleased.)
Wow, kid. I wasn't even good.

Right in the middle.
[He makes a middling gesture with his hand. He probably learned it from one of the other sassy gay teens.

it's... a pound of bacon.
but it's also a drawing, of her and her dad.)

[He scoffs. Then she unwraps the next gift. He's a little more self-conscious about it.
Well, not the bacon.
But the drawing. He's always liked drawing but it hasn't been easy to find the supplies. Now here, there's so much of it. And entire store.]
You have the same eyes. See?
[He traces his finger from her face in the drawing to her father's.]

I'll make us some for breakfast. (and then she attempts a sheepish look, even though she's still mostly grinning.)
I forgot to get you anything.

(she stuck the paper to the gift with cello tape. and there is a tiny hole in the parcel lev is opening already.)

Still, he opens it delicately, pulling apart the seams of the folds instead of the paper.]

Lev, just rip it. (she wants to see his reaction!!)

It is.
See?

He shakes it experimentally.]

(how... to explain this one.
she can't, it's just weird.) You're gonna have to open it and find out.
