Be safe, (she manages, crunching away on her breakfast, looking for something to prop her phone up so she can watch this like a tiny television screen while she eats. she leans it against her water glass, just as clarisse hits the down button, and the doors close. hopefully she doesn't lose reception.)
The sound of me losing all respect for you? (hard to sound disparaging when she's halfway to laughing, her shoulders shaking as she tries to hold it back,) You fucking goober.
[ Clarisse yawns and leans back against the wall, falling quiet so they can both listen. There is some insanely creepy muzak playing softly. And at the same time, almost like it's part of the song, an irregular metallic thud. The "CLUNK". ]
[ Right as she says it, the car grinds to a halt. The discordant music keeps on playing, and the "CLUNK" keeps on clunking. Clarisse waits a couple seconds to see if the elevator's going to start back up, and then starts jabbing at the floor buttons when it doesn't. ]
Dumb piece of crap! [ She sounds more aggravated than creeped out, and she's honestly kind of annoyed with herself for baiting the creepy old Deerington elevator like this in the first place. She knew it was going to end up pulling some weird bullshit on her, and yet she just couldn't resist trying to be funny anyway. ]
Is this the part where it suddenly drops all the way to the ground?
(oh, fuck, actually she hates the idea of that and thinking about it happening to her is making her squirm in her seat. would she care about the elevator being high up if she couldn't immediately tell that it was at a height? who can say for sure but also abby never wants to find out.
and then because she can hear clarisse smacking at the buttons, she adds, suddenly,) Be careful, okay.
Thanks for sending that thought into the universe.
[ Nothing is happening. Just a stalled elevator, some creepy music, a weird sound. Clarisse spends a few more seconds button mashing, then sighs and gives up on that as a tactic. Next is probably gonna be trying to pry the doors open, but she's gonna wait on that for a minute. ]
So if Bella asks what happened to me you'll tell her I starved to death in this elevator, right.
Nah, (abby says through another mouthful, as she's gone back to her cereal,) I'm going to tell her you dropped your barbell on your chest and that you were only lifting a hundred pounds.
Close enough. It translates to 'go to the crows.' It's worse than it sounds.
[ Don't whistle at her, Abby, it only feeds her superiority complex. Clarisse gets the doors open wide enough so she can peer out and down the shaft, then frowns. Now she's gotta decide whether to stay put or try and climb out. ]
You're worse than you sound. (a lazy counter, don't call her on it,) Are you between floors right now? (from the way clarisse is holding the phone, she's got an idea of the situation... don't point it down the elevator shaft though okay she doesn't like it)
[ She can see light above her, a way to climb out. Shouldn't be too hard, as long as nothing crazy happens. And preferable to climbing down. She's not scared of heights in particular, but it seems wildly stupid to attempt, even for her. ]
It's this movie about these teenagers who cheat death by surviving a massive disaster, so death starts picking them off one by one in these really fucked up complicated ways. There are like 50 sequels and in the second one a lady gets her head cut off by an elevator.
Can you be careful?? (okay she hates this now jokes are over! clarisse hasn't started yet but abby knows that she's going to, that the decision is already set in stone. and clarisse telling her about teens who die in stupid ways isN'T HELPING)
Stop telling me about stupid movies and concentrate.
[ Clarisse is already shimmying out of the box and grabbing for the cable so she can start to hoist herself up, but she pauses to laugh at Abby's sudden shift in mood. ]
You sound like my mom. And you were totally fine with me getting killed by a "clunk" like two minutes ago, remember?
That's because you weren't actually going to get killed by a clunk. You could get killed by this.
(don't make her confess her true feelings here, okay, she just doesn't want to hear clarisse die suddenly over a voice chat. that would be fucked up.) Take your time.
Taking my time, [ Clarisse says placatingly, as she starts climbing. It's not very hard. She has that extra demigod strength, after all, and she's not worried about falling. Once you've climbed the rock wall at camp and avoided the rolling boulders and the lava, something like a simple elevator shaft seems very doable.
Anyway, it's not until she actually reaches the next floor that she realizes that she's going to have to somehow a) get from the cable to the door and then b) open the door without falling to her death. There's a long pause as she hangs there, trying to visualize it, and then she says, ]
Thank you. (mutter mutter. but she's stopped eating with her spoon halfway to her mouth as she watches the video feed. it's too hard to really see anything, it's just black, and the sounds clarisse makes while she hauls herself up.
and then-)
Wait, (abby snaps, but the feed cuts out instantly and leaves her staring at her own reflection in the fluid. she registers the tight, worried expression on her face with a jolt of embarrassment; she sets the fluid down, and makes herself return to eating. clarisse knows what she's doing, she'll be fine.
but bella is gonna give it to her if she dies.
so for both their sakes, she'd better not do that)

[ Don't mind Clarisse, she's just gonna start casually prying the doors apart with her hands. ]

(clarisse prying the doors apart is cool though, she does it so easily. abby gives her a wolf whistle in return.)

I think you should update that sign to a flat out 'do not use'.
video;
I'm not a shithead, I had to hang up so I could figure out how to get myself out. [ She yawns. ] But, yeah, agreed.
