HISTORY

DEAD DAD

Abby's father is murdered when she is a teenager by Joel Miller. Devastated, Abby flees to Seattle and joins up with the Washington Liberation Force (WLF). She starts working out, obsessively building herself from the bottom up to become a cold-blooded killer in the hopes that, one day, she'll track Joel down and exact revenge for what he did to her. Five years later she achieves that but killing Joel does not 'fix' any of her problems

LEV AND YARA

Abby's faction, the WLF, is in a turf war with a rival group called the Seraphites. The Seraphiates are a death cult who worship a dead woman called the Prophet. Abby meets two children, Lev and Yara, while they are trying to escape this cult and ends up taking them under her wing after they save her life. She takes care of them and helps them to escape the Seraphites. After Yara is killed by the WLF Abby places herself bodily between Lev and the leader of her old faction to keep Lev from harm. Through caring for Yara and Lev Abby finds a new purpose and is finally able to drag herself out of the endless cycle of revenge she was stuck in

ELLIE WILLIAMS

Abby spends the bulk of canon being obsessively hunted by Ellie, and (pivoting to CRAU) when she falls through a rift and into Thedas, she finds Ellie already living there. They clash in a violent panic at first sight but now that they are on the same side (Riftwatch) of a new war, they are forced to trust each other. They have a tense working relationship, able to cooperate only on missions, but as time passes they strengthen a mutually agreed upon peaceful truce, and start to realise they have a lot in common, becoming curious about each other. Their relationship is tumultuous but by the end of Ellie's time in Thedas the two of them had become friendly with each other — enough that Abby misses her after she's gone

Granitefell

While on what was supposed to be a straightforward mission, Riftwatch's forces are lured into an ambush by Tevinter at Granitefell and 16 members are killed, including Abby. Three weeks later, rifter magi-science invents a time machine powered by dragon blood (stay with me) to go back and warn the team en route to Granitefell. This is successful and the two timelines sync back up as if the bad end never happened

Built to survive the zombie apocalypse

Trained in marksmanship and survival skills as well as hand-to-hand combat. Proficient across a wide array of weapon types (handgun, pistol; crossbow, flamethrower) and extremely fit and muscular from time spent lifting weights and training her body to become a weapon. MONSTER

appearance

Abby's monstrous form is that of a hellhound, cŵn annwn, a white wolf with bright red inner ears and eyes. She walks on four legs and is unnaturally large. She has huge, curved teeth that hook on and into her target, making getting away from her once she has you in her jaws extremely difficult. Her claws are sharp and easily rend flesh. She is fast and agile, good at tracking her prey by scent, and has extremely good hearing. She has to rely on these two senses to navigate, as her eyesight is extremely poor. Her white fur is thick and dense and protects her from most surface injury. When she is newly in her transformation her coat appears pure and pristine; over time she becomes bloody, caked in mud, dirt and grime, and her fur and skin becomes infected, sprouting orange fungus reminiscent of the cordyceps that rules the world she originally came from.

'A Cŵn Annwn's goal [...] is to hunt wrongdoers into the ground until they can run no longer, just as the criminals did to their victims.' Her werewolf howl serves as a death knell to all who hear it. When you are far away from her, the howling and growling (and occasional clicking) is loud, distinct and echoing, frightening; the closer she gets to you the quieter and softer she becomes. Once she goes silent, she is upon you, and it is too late. Abby's monstrous form brings out that old, monstrous side of her that she is so desperate to put behind her and move on from. In her werewolf form she is single-minded and obsessive, tracking down those who have done her/her people wrong or who she decides must be brought to justice. She is not content to simply hunt and kill these targets but is compelled to wound them bit by bit, often letting them run between attacks until they can no longer get away from her.

• Abby arrives in Deerington circa November 2020. Her purpose? Grabbing Lev and getting out. She's dumped in after having made contact with the Fireflies at long last, and while she's happy to immediately find Lev in Deerington, she isn't ever shy to let him know where she'd rather be.
• December brings White Walkers, and in facing them she meets several people that will later become part of her close circle. As a survivor, Abby is used to leaning on strangers in tough situations just to get by, so these interactions come naturally to her.
• New year new Abb– psyche! In January 2021 she runs into Joel Miller, public enemy number one from back home. Abby gives herself time to calm down before making any decisions, which stops her from doing something reckless and violent (a first for her). She confides to Jennifer about her history with Joel, and both her and Lev help Abby work through her fear and uncertainty over what to do.
• February was calm and h hahaha just kidding can you imagine. Abby and Clarisse exchange memories of their dads against their will, Abby's tinged with grief and love, Clarisse's with fear and shame. It's unpleasant for the both of them but they make an effort to talk about it afterwards, and it brings them closer together.
• But, turns out, catching a goddamn break doesn't exist in Deerington. March brings Lev and Abby's tension over staying versus leaving to a head. They have a falling out over the difference in opinion, and spent time apart as a result. This is upsetting for Abby, but she reaches out for comfort from the people she trusts, and finds they're happy to give it to her.
• Despite everything going to absolute pieces around her, this part of her time in Deerington is where Abby realises she now feels comfortable in her new surroundings. Part of her still longs for the Fireflies. She knows that if she were given a chance to leave, it wouldn't be as clean cut as it would have been when she first arrived. She's making friends, she's in a casual relationship with Jennifer that she enjoys, and she's benefiting greatly from the kindness of others. She's starting to open up more to the people who matter.
• April heralds a lot of fighting. Mostly with worms? What a refreshing change. By this time Lev and Abby have reconciled, and spoken calmly. Abby decides she's going to stay in Deerington and stop looking for ways to leave despite lingering misgivings. Her and Lev both promise to be more truthful and open with each other in future.
• April showers bring May... also showers. Peter Parker dies in May and doesn't come back. This coincides with Lev dying and while that hits Abby incredibly hard, she doesn't truly start to panic until she realises Peter has been gone for longer than the usual week. It forces her to face the possibility with life without Lev, but she's able to express that vulnerability in a healthy way with her close friends, ultimately working through it.
• Her household also expands in this time. Clarisse and Bella move in after their apartment crumbles, ditto Scorpia after Abby finds her wandering the fog alone and offers her room. Jennifer joins them later in the month. They have a dog now. The dog is called Socks. Also Lev does come back after a week and it's fine he's fine she's fine we're all fine nobody look at her
• Thanks to an encounter with one of the Wastes, Clarisse is forced to face her past with Abby right there at her side. This event marks the most significant moment in their current relationship, and after this point, Abby considers Clarisse her closest friend.
• Finally, June. Abby spends this month catching up with her people, finding out what their next moves are. Everybody is planning on heading on to the next place; this is good. Abby's come to find that she wants, very badly, to keep these people safe at her side. When she packs up and walks through the door with Lev she doesn't look back, and she leaves her Firefly pendant hanging from the lamp on her bedside table. Whatever lies ahead, she's committing herself to it. Wholly, and completely.

I'd also like for the blood to affect her nerves due to the absence of touch. If somebody hasn't physically touched her in a while, she starts to feel numb, but this goes away if she reaches out and asks for/takes comfort. I'm trying to get her into good habits.

Canon World

abby is from planet earth as we know it bar one huge difference: in 2013, a type of fungus known as the cordyceps brain infection mutates somewhere in south american crops and proceeds to successfully infect a human for the first time. within two days of infection, the cordyceps causes its host to lose higher brain function, leaving them hyper-aggressive, and incapable of rational thought. within two weeks of the initial infection, fungus begins to grow and alter their sight. we would call them 'zombies', but abby's world refers to them as 'the infected'.

it only takes months for the breakdown of society to overwhelm america, and kill off a large amount of the world's population. abby was born roughly 2017-2018, and grows up in a post-apocalyptic america where people have had to go back to their roots in order to survive. the world itself is abandoned, and broken up (bombed in some places, in attempts to contain infection), and steadily returning to nature.

by the time abby is an adult, most major states are 'run' by their own groups of people, who sometimes engage in turf wars over the land and resources available; a revolutionary militia group called the fireflies are working toward a vaccine to save humanity. paramilitary organisations such as the washington liberation front in seattle are locked in an endless power struggle for control of the area. small settlements of survivors such as the people who live in jackson county in wyoming are trying to recreate a facsimile of 'the old world' before the outbreak happened. offshoot groups also exist, such as the old-world aligned, aggressive cult known as the seraphites, and a pack of violent slavers named the rattlers.

the most important thing is that you know how to survive. if you don't know how/are ill prepared to fight and kill the infected, you don't go outside. even if you can maneuver the infected, your fellow humans don't trust easy. some even go so far as to trap and kill unsuspecting people who wander into their territory. overall vibe: every man for themselves.

History

• abby anderson is raised with the fireflies. her dad, jerry anderson, is a surgeon helping the group develop a vaccine for the cordyceps infection
• jerry is shot and killed by joel miller. abby discovers her father's body, and she decides that she's going to find joel, and take revenge on him.
• the fireflies disband. abby and her friends join the washington liberation front in seattle, and abby dedicates herself to the task of hunting down joel.
• a tip off brings her to jackson, wyoming. she finds and sadistically tortures joel until ellie williams breaks into their hideout, and then she kills him in front of her.
• outside of the wlf's turf, abby is caught by seraphites. they attempt to kill her but she is saved by two apostates, lev and yara. the three of them work together to get to safety.
• abby initially leaves them both behind, but swiftly goes back for them and helps them to safety. they make plans to amputate yara's compounded arm, but they don't have any of the necessary supplies.
• abby and lev set off to an old hospital across the city. along the way they make use of the seraphite's sky bridges to get there faster, and abby is forced to deal with her phobia of heights.
• in the rundown hospital (ground zero for seattle's particular outbreak), abby encounters a gigantic fusion of infected, that she fights and manages to kill singlehandedly. her and lev return to the aquarium, and save yara.
• lev runs away back to the seraphite island, and yara and abby chase him. they get him back, but yara is killed in the process, and upon returning to the aquarium, abby discovers that mel and owen have been murdered.
• she tracks ellie back to the theater. she kills jesse, and severely wounds tommy. ellie and abby fight, but abby decides to spare her and dina when lev calls her name. abby leaves with lev, to chase rumours of fireflies.
• in santa barbara, abby and lev are caught by the rattlers, who enslave them for months. an escape attempt leads them to be strung up on pillars to starve to death but ellie finds them instead, and cuts them down.
• ellie forces abby to engage her by threatening lev's life. they fight to the death. ellie nearly kills abby, but spares her at the last second, and abby escapes with lev in a boat.
• it is implied that they arrive safely on catalina island, where the fireflies were last rumoured to be.

Personality

abby is a determined, hardened person; she was born into a cruel and violent world, and it shows. she has loose morals, a temper, and she's quick to throw herself behind rash decisions without thought for any negative outcomes. seeking revenge for what happened to her dad grants her tunnel vision that keeps her from acknowledging the rest of her life for six odd years. her body itself is a physical indicator of how deep that obsession ran.

she has a guilty conscience that typically manifests in violent nightmares. she cries when a close friend tells her she's a piece of shit. she hides the fact that she has tortured people to death when asked about it. abby doesn't have a high opinion of herself; she knows her actions are wrong, that she's done terrible things, and that she's a bad person. she is struggling to get herself out of a hole she didn't even realise she was digging.

deep down she can be selfless. she is brave, and protective. she essentially adopts lev the moment she realises he needs her, and she dedicates her first thought to his safety in every scenario. he makes her affectionate side come out; she threatens to hug him at one point. it's clear by the way that she interacts with him that she longs to be easy, familiar, and playful with the people she likes. she teases lev, cracks bad jokes, and can be outright goofy at times.

abby is also a very hopeful person for somebody who lives in a zombie apocalypse, though she's quick to hide that behind layers of sarcasm. she's been hurt very badly in her life, but she still maintains a sense of wishful thinking, and dedication to whatever she's set her sights on.

Strengths & Weaknesses

abby is highly trained in marksmanship and other general survival skills, as well as boasting an well above-average level of hand-to-hand combat training. she is proficient across a wide array of weapon types (handgun, pistol; crossbrow, flamethrower), and she's comprised of pure muscle, and used to lifting heavy weights. she prefers to bring the pain, and likes to take opponents out in seconds with well placed chokeholds. she has fast reflexes, and good reaction times, and is used to being resourceful with her surroundings, including scavenging and reusing materials for crafting purposes.

while she can juggernaut her way through most situations, this comes at the cost of being very noticeable and loud. she doesn't suit stealth, and her violent, eager style of fighting attracts attention. she also has a phobia of heights, and would find it very difficult to engage with scenarios that require her to be up high or in the air. she has no magical abilities of any kind, which puts her at a natural disadvantage against any antagonistic force using magic against her. she's a tank, and can take a couple good solid hits and keep going but she has no experience with wearing armour or defensive clothing.

outside of combat scenario she's good at climbing, she knows how to jump, can ride horses, drive cars and boats and probably trucks. she's very well-read and she likes classical music and she has above average medical knowledge thanks to growing up around doctors.

abby typically dreams of herself as a teenager, as most of her nightmares mould themselves to fit the memory of her finding her father's body in the abandoned firefly hospital at salt lake. all she ever has on her at the time is a handgun. i'd like her arrival inventory to be similar, except obviously i want her to be her current, twenty-two year old self instead of fifteen/sixteen.

Humanization

she's just a regular ol' human!

Fit

abby's a survivor. she's used to adapting to situations swiftly even if the fit is clunky, and i'm interested in her learning how to iron things out around her as she becomes more settled. she's spent the last six or so years keeping extremely physically fit so she can go out and murder things with her bare hands too, so i'm interested in trying to steer her away from that and into something a little calmer, where she has time to breathe and think and not resort to violence as a first option. also, i love playing abby. she's fun to write because she's got complex morality and depending on how much she's said about her past to other people they may think she's only a hardened survivor, or know that she's a cold-blooded murderer. there's so much to work with in her story.

(also, i'd be remiss to leave out that obviously she's going to clash abruptly and negatively with ellie, and anybody who ellie considers to be a friend. and that's going to be really fun to navigate! ellie's been having way too good a time around here and i'm going to do something about it)
